~ When you find yourself in the eye of a storm, you need a compass and understanding of the forces driving the storm to successfully navigate yourself out.
~ When you find yourself being tossed by waves, you need to find a way to ride that wave.
~ When you find your pathway obstructed by a mountain, you must find a path around, over, or through that mountain.

About the AquaTerra Strategies Logo:
AquaTerra Strategies’ logo embodies the AquaTerra name and the essence of what AquaTerra does. The logo consists of a blue wave coming ashore against the green earth. If you look closely at the logo you may also recognize that the white forms a tropical cyclone.
There are many ways to interpret the logo, just as there are many ways to interpret policies, legislation, and regulations. The blue largely symbolizes and draws from the Aqua part of our name. It is a wave, it is blue, and it symbolizes water, but it also symbolizes motion, currents, and the completely ubiquitous yet, often unpredictable force of nature and of politics.
The green symbolizes Terra – the land, and is associated with the environment and sustainability, but the green also symbolizes terra firma or solid ground – stability. The ultimate goal of most any organization is to be on solid ground and to make decisions from a position of stability.
The white of the logo brings with it images of hurricanes, of storms, of danger and more symbolically of the chaos and uncertainty of the political world, especially for those who do not ply these waters day in and day out. And finally the compass lines are pretty straightforward, direction and navigation. As sure as the compass always points North and as sure as the most trusted Sherpa is of his path, successfully navigating Washington depends on having that trusted guide.
Expanding on these ideas and these symbols, the logo has a natural motion to it created by the waves of blue and green. Waves are powerful and natural. They are a form of natural energy as well as a repetitive process and they can and do impart more that just the natural meaning. Not only can one be caught in the waves of politics, but society is always dealing with waves of something, be it waves of innovation, waves of immigration, or with the current Administration, waves of change and reform.
The Terra/land in the logo conveys something that is immobile or something that is difficult to move or change – something that takes energy and effort to move or to get around. In terms of Washington, this could be a Committee Chairman, Agency bureaucracy, or well established public opinion. Aqua conveys the nature of water and the power of waves. Water, a substance that can find its way through most anything, that finds the cracks, the crevaces and naturally seeks balance and Waves, the relentless force that eventually will wear away even the hardest of obstructions.
Storms – a symbol of natural confrontation as well as something of power, of danger, of something to be taken seriously, of something to be avoided. If possible you avoid storms or take shelter, but if necessary to confront a storm, you have to be prepared and have the tools and skills necessary to safely make it through – you must be prepared. Storms are also a natural “engine” that transfers heat and water and energy around the globe. How one navigates around or through storms or how one even harnesses the power or bleeds the energy of a storm often dictates one’s success or failure in a policy and political setting.
AquaTerra Strategies recognizes that each client’s circumstances are different and unique and that conventional wisdom is not always to be followed. Looking at our logo, the untrained eye sees a hurricane, but to the experienced eye, one sees something very uncommon, a Southern hemisphere tropical storm with clockwise circulation.
